Network Engineer Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing and implementing computer networks, such as virtual private networks (VPNs), wide area networks (WANs), and local area networks (LANs). .
- Installing, configuring, and maintaining network hardware and software, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and network monitoring tools.
- Troubleshooting network issues and resolving network outages or performance problems.
- Monitoring network performance and ensuring network availability and reliability.
- Performing network security audits and implementing network security measures to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other security threats.
- Collaborating with other IT professionals, such as system administrators and software developers, to ensure seamless integration of network infrastructure with other systems.
- Conducting regular network capacity planning and recommending network upgrades or enhancements to meet the organization's future needs.
- Documenting network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps to maintain an up-to-date network documentation repository.
- Keeping up-to-date with the latest networking technologies, trends, and best practices, and making recommendations for network improvements based on industry standards.

Network Engineer Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related discipline is required; CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) certification or an equivalent qualification is preferable.
- Proven experience as a network engineer, with hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting network infrastructure.
- In-depth knowledge of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, and routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP).
- Experience with network security technologies, such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and endpoint security solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network problems.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in a team setting and engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency with programs like Nagios, SolarWinds, Wireshark, and other network monitoring and management tools.
- Familiarity with cloud networking concepts and technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) is a plus.
